Pearl wedding jewellery, what is the history behind the tradition?

Pearls in bridal jewellery are are said to symbolise purity and innocence. They are also said to 'take away the brides tears' ensuring she had a happy and tear-free wedded life.

Traditionally pearls are given to the bride either as a gift from her father or the groom, sometimes having been handed down through the generations.

Today many brides today also give their bridesmaids gifts of pearl pendants, earrings or bracelets and so the association and tradition of pearls and weddings continues!

Pearl Jewellery for Girls

Younger girls are often asked to be bridesmaids and flower girls. Pearls are of course a firm favourite gift for bridesmaids, so with our childrens range your younger bridesmaids can have jewellery similar to your older bridesmaids. Everyone will match and the little ones will feel so grown up!

The most popular choices are the smaller pearl pendants and the seed pearl necklaces, either of which will match beautifully with the adult versions. Pendants are on a 16 inch silver chain rather than an 18 inch one, but if you need one even shorter please ask.
